Introducing the 2013 GL63 AMG®

by Nate Torvik on December 7, 2012

The 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, held from November 30 to December 9, has been a hotspot for car fanatics and manufacturers alike. The LA auto show is one of the largest U.S. annual auto shows, and many vehicles make their North American and worldwide debuts here. This year has been no different, with one particular member of the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class family making its inaugural appearance: the GL63 AMG®.

AMG® is the high-performance branch of Mercedes-Benz that takes the fantastic vehicles that are produced by Mercedes every year and makes them even more fantastic. New engines, exterior styling, tires, exhaust, interior materials and features—you name it and AMG is more than happy to put it into many of the Mercedes models. The GL63 AMG® is no different, taking the already outstanding, award-winning GL-Class SUV to an entirely new level of power and style.

Engineers have enhanced the engine, taking it from an already powerful 429-hp version to an unspeakable 550-hp, twin-turbocharged V8 that can burn down the road at a top speed of 174 mph, according to cars.com. Other noticeable AMG® traits, including 21-inch AMG® wheels and new, large air intakes on the front apron, combine to portray the strength and power that this beast can deliver.

With a price tag that starts at nearly double the base price of a regular GL-Class ($116,925 vs. $62,400), the people at AMG® are not messing around. Delivering the kind of performance and quality that the AMG® name supplies is something that every Mercedes fan can appreciate. Unfortunately, there are only a lucky few that can afford this luxurious vehicle, while the rest of us are required to stand here and drool.
