A Heartbreaking Auction

If you are a celebrity, there is an extremely good chance that you have some ridiculously high-priced vehicle sitting in your garage. Professional athletes, Hollywood stars, and platinum record-selling musicians are all often known to splurge on the vehicles, as if they don’t want to be noticed. They drive around in some of the gaudiest vehicles on the market, and then complain about the paparazzi. That makes sense, somewhere.  Well, Tom Petty, the original Heartbreaker, just recently sold away one of his most prized possessions – his 1996 Jaguar XJS Convertible.

Although this may not have been one of the most prestigious car auctions recently, such as the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and it may have been on the ever-popular online auction website, eBay, but this modern classic Jaguar is no slouch. Especially considering its link to one of the most legendary musicians of his era and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the XJS convertible provides class, luxury, and personality unmatched by many other auction vehicles.

The 1996 model of the Jaguar XJS convertible was the last model in a long line of XJS vehicles that lasted more than 20 years. The champagne colored beauty sold for more the $40,000. Pristine leather seats, a V6 engine that exudes raw Jaguar power, and a perfectly conditioned exterior maintain the true essence of this vehicle as one of the most luxurious coupe/convertibles of its day. It is still probably one, but without the fancy gadgets and new-fangled technology that are in most new cars today.

As far as used car value is concerned, this Tom Petty Jaguar carries the mantle of a Jaguar with pride. It is not often that you can find such a classic piece of art, owned by a classic musical artist, at an auto auction, and on eBay. This was just the perfect storm for car collectors and it will be a nice addition to the garage of the winning bidder, whoever they may be.
