Simple Car Care Tips

by Nate Torvik on November 12, 2012

Every year, your life changes just a little bit. Your car changes with you, traveling those extra miles for vacations, work, school, and your everyday life. With everything that you and your car go through, you can’t just expect that it will keep running like the day you bought it without a little work. That’s why, if you are able to make a few more changes, your vehicle can continue to drive you through all of the little alterations in your life.

Everyone talks about how often you should get an oil change. Everyone has heard of the 3,000 mile adage, but modern engines just don’t require the babying that older models needed. The guys at Jiffy Lube want to sell you an oil change, tire rotation, filter change, new wiper blades, and everything else they can put in your hands. Your owner’s manual will have recommended maintenance for your vehicle, so rather than listening to Steve at Jiffy Lube, no matter how nice he is to you, just use your head.

Sure, there will always be times when you have to take your car, truck, or SUV in to get some tender love and care, and you will just have to find a good mechanic for your automotive repairs. However, you can still do the small things yourself, like:

  • Rotating your tires,
  • Changing out your fluids,
  • Keeping your car clean, and
  • Checking your tire pressure.

The simplest things that you can do for your car may seem silly at times, but to maintain any used car value for whatever life may throw at you and your car, you just need to do that little extra for your vehicle.

After all of the places your car can take you and everything that it helps you with, why not show it a little love? Wash your windshield while you’re filling up your gas tank; it might make you feel better about how expensive gasoline costs these days. Take care of the little things and continue on down the road with your best friend, your car.
