The Darker Side of the SLS AMG

by Nate Torvik on November 1, 2012

On the 45th anniversary of one of the most recognizable performance-enhancing divisions in the automotive industry, AMG, officials have shared an exciting development about the world-renowned SLS AMG. The recent debut of the GT3 45th (which is not yet for sale) anniversary edition has piqued the interest of many Mercedes aficionados, but the announcement of an SLS AMG Black Series for the 2014 lineup is upping the ante.

The SLS AMG Black Series is the brainchild of the AMG Performance Studio in Affalterbach, Germany. Black series vehicles from Mercedes-Benz are the epitome of performance for their individual classes. AMG has released Black Series models of the SLK55, CLK63, SL65, and C63. All of these models were of the high-performance variety already, but were made more powerful and aggressive by the Performance Studio. With the promised improvements to the SLS AMG, fans of the famous Black Series have another vehicle to look forward to.

The SLS AMG is even now one of the best cars that Mercedes has to offer. With more improvements from AMG, the already-commanding vehicle will become nearly unstoppable. An improvement from the standard 590 hp in the SLS AMG GT to an upgraded 630 hp may not seem like a lot, but when you’re in the driver’s seat, you’ll be able to tell. Not to mention that acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds will come standard. Modeled to look similar to the aforementioned 45th anniversary model, the entire car is a beauty to behold, visually and audibly.

Although the line for the new Black Series will be long, the car will be in short supply. A vehicle like this one will quickly become a collector’s item, and Mercedes enthusiasts will be ready for it. You’ll have to exercise your patience though, because it will still be some time before this bad boy will reach the market.
